Kerrang! - Mini textual analysis

Kerang! is a music magazine targeted at metal or grunge fans, the age group mainly covering the grown-up teenagers of the 1980’s-90‘s. as such, the advertisements are for things that young adults would be interested in buying, like laptops, band t-shirts, concert tickets, high-end amplifiers and guitars. The colour scheme is mainly dark, with frequent stylizations in titles but more uniform plain text for articles. This fits the general theme and image of the music.
The photos of band members are very rarely from pre-arranged photo-ops, instead being of them in action live on stage or backstage just after concerts, which shows that the people who read this magazine or listen to this music are more interested the the artists’ musicianship. This also represents the musicians as being able to perform well. The articles are considerably longer, feature more text than other magazines, and are about more important topics than trivial segments on whoever has the best makeup (as frequently shown in pop magazines), which indicates that the target audience is also more interested in reading about things that matter to the band as well as having the attention span and/or reading skills to read longer articles.
